Bats in your house?
Thousands of homeowners find bats in their houses each year. It is not an uncommon problem to have, even in newly built homes. Bats, most generally, enter homes from construction openings on the roof of the house. More specifically your roof ridge vent, a type of vent that is installed at the peak of your home’s roof. This vent warps over time due to heat and exposure to the elements and makes enough space for bats to enter. Bats only need about 6mm to be able to squeeze into a space.
Once in the home, bats will begin to roost during the day in attics, eaves, soffits, and porch overhangs. Bats are very temperature sensitive and will move down walls when the attic gets too hot during the day to find a cooler spot. Once night comes and the bats are ready to feed, they will look for an opening, which is often into your living room, kitchen, bedroom…you get the idea.
How do you know if you have bats in your home?
If you suspect that you have bats in your home, here are some things to look for:
- Bats flying near or around your roof
- Any accumulation of bat droppings on walls or the ground
- The smell of bat guano – This has a very overwhelming odor, especially if there is a large colony living in your home.
- Any squeaking or scratching inside walls or ceiling, particularly at dusk and dawn

How does AAC Distributing help?
You might be wondering what this has to do with our company. Well, at AAC Distributing, LLC we manufacture premium exclusion products. This is just a fancy way for us to say, we make really good products to secure your home against unwanted critter entry and they work for a really long time.
As we mentioned earlier, your roof ridge vent can be a major vulnerable spot for your home. We manufacture a product called RIDGE-GUARD to protect your ridge vent. RIDGE-GUARD is the ultimate ridge vent protection and is patented by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Installing RIDGE-GUARD on your roof ridge vent locks the vent down securely, which will prevent bats from crawling under the plastic or fiber roof ridge vent, as well as keep squirrels, mice, or rats from chewing their way into the attic. Some other products that may help with a bat exclusion are our XclusionPro Louvered Vent Guard and XclusionPro SignWrap™.
